Au Pair in America is the perfect combination of childcare, study, travel and cultural exchange. It is a meaningful way to care for children and share experiences, bringing together so many opportunities into one incredible experience.

You will live with your carefully selected host family in one of 180 cluster areas across North America. You will be providing childcare for your selected host family for a minimum of 12 months.

Community Driven

At the head of each cluster is a community counsellor who is there to ensure that you and your host family are having a successful time.

As an Au pair, you are more than just an employee but an additional family member.
You will share your culture with your host family, and in turn, learn about theirs.

Which Program is For You

Au Pair in America

Perfect For:

Those seeking a perfect combination of childcare, study and travel. Au pairs provide up to 45 hours of childcare per week in return for a minimum of US$195.75 weekly stipend as well as room and board from your host family in return for up to 45 hours of childcare per week.

Your host family will provide an annual study contribution of US$500. You will have to gain a minimum of 6 study credits.

You can apply if...

  • Are between the ages of 18 - 26 years old (you can apply whilst 17)
  • Have 200 hours of childcare experience (50 hours can be family related)
  • Have a valid driving license (P-plates are fine)
  • Are a secondary school graduate or equivalent
  • Have never been convicted of a criminal offence
  • Want to spend a year living with an American family.

Au Pair Extraordinaire

Perfect If:

You have professional childcare experience or recognised childcare qualification. As an Extraordinaire au pair, you will receive a minimum of US$250 (US$300 from Sept 1) weekly stipend as well as room and board from your host family in return for up to 45 hours of childcare per week.

Your host family will provide an annual study contribution of US$500. You will have to gain a minimum of 6 study credits.

  • Have a valid driving license (P-plates are fine)
  • Hold a recognised childcare qualification, or have 2 years recent full-time professional childcare experience
  • Have 200 hours of childcare experience (50 hours can be family related)
  • Are a secondary school graduate or equivalent
  • Have never been convicted of a criminal offence
  • Want to spend a year living with an American family

EduCare in America

Perfect If:

You would like to do some more study. As an EduCare companion, you will take care of school-aged children, which means that the childcare that you will provide will usually only be before and after school.

This is great as it allows you the opportunity to focus more on your studies! As a EduCare au pair, you will receive a minimum of US$146.81 weekly stipend as well as room and board from your host family in return for up to 30 hours of childcare per week. Your host family will provide an annual study contribution of US$1000. You will have to gain a minimum of 12 study credits.

Host families and au pairs are free to agree to compensation higher than the legally applicable minimum.
