Step 1. Complete your online application

When you're ready, head to our application site called My Au Pair in America to create your online profile: www.myaupairinamerica.com

Once you have registered, you will have a 'to do' list to follow which includes answering several questions about yourself and uploading some photos and documents.

Step 2. Attend an interview

Once your online profile is completed, you'll be invited to attend an interview with our team in Australia. We have several interviewing staff located in most major cities and regional areas.

Step 3. Match with a host family

If you've passed your interview and completed your online profile in full you move forward to the matching process (the most exciting part!) which is when you speak to potential host families and decide on your placement. During this process, it is important to ask each host family as many questions as possible, especially relating to topics that are important to you.

A few example questions:

  • What is your schedule like, and what will be responsibilities be with your family?
  • Does your family have any special requirements such as dietary, medical or cultural needs that I should be aware of?
  • What are your children like, and what kinds of activites are they interested in?

Most information about each host family can be found in their 'dear au pair' letter which you'll be able to read, but it's still good to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the family you choose to match with.

Step 4. Obtain your visa

After you've chosen your host family, we will move quickly to organize your visa paperwork and assist you through the process of applying for your Cultural Exchange au pair visa. Obtaining your visa can take anywhere from 2 - 6 weeks, depending on how busy the consulate is and what appointments are available. We will provide more information regarding the visa when the time comes.
